Privacy Policy
Reg. P - Privacy (a.k.a. Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act)
It shall be the policy of Thornapple Valley Community Credit Union to maintain confidentiality and member privacy as a top priority. Our interaction with our members, potential members, past members, nonmembers, and the public allows us to collect both public and nonpublic information. We shall restrict all access to information whenever and wherever possible, and utilize confidential information in a professional and proper manner. Our Privacy team will be coordinator, Barney Hutchins, and member, Cassandra O'Keefe. All members and nonmembers shall be covered by this policy.
Thornapple Valley Community Credit Union is committed to providing our members with competitive products and services to help members meet financial needs, and reach financial goals. Providing these products and services can necessitate the sharing of information about our members to our affiliated third party service providers. Protecting personal information and using it in a manner consistent with member expectations is our goal. Further, we may have to disclose member information under other circumstances that are either required or permitted by law. The vast majority of the time we would typically disclose public and nonpublic information with our members' consent. This would include information to follow instructions received by a member authorizing us to do so , or to conduct the operations of the credit union, or to protect the security of all member and credit union financial records.
TVCCU will only share information when absolutely necessary. We will only share information to administer the products and services we provide, when required to do so by the government, or when we partner with other businesses to offer a broader array of products and services. To protect our members' privacy, we will only affiliate with companies that agree to maintain strong confidential protections and to limit the use of shared information. Further, we do not permit our affiliated companies to share or sell shared information to other third parties. The businesses we select will offer products designed to enhance our members' economic well-being. Under no circumstances will we authorize these firms to charge your account without your expressed consent, and we will not sell member information to telemarketing firms. We are permitted by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, to share the following types of information with our affiliated companies:
Our employees shall be trained in the importance of maintaining confidentiality and member privacy. Each annual performance evaluation will address this area, and if problems arise the Personnel Policy shall be adhered to, and the appropriate reprimand procedure implemented.
Thornapple Valley Community Credit Union shall send out the initial Reg. P - Privacy Disclosure in the March 2001 statement mailing. Each new membership request shall receive a copy of the disclosure starting the 26th of February 2001 prior to completing the membership application. Annual Privacy Disclosures will be included with the March statement mailings each year thereafter.
Applications for membership or other services that have been denied are maintained by the credit union for at least two (2) years, and in some cases for seven (7) or more years. The same is true of documents related to members who terminate their membership with TVCCU. This is also true for any joint account holders and/or cosigners that may be on any of the documents. Information maintained on terminated members or members/nonmembers who have been denied a service, as well as joint account holders and cosigners, will not be shared with anyone, except as required or permitted by law.

This information is collected to establish and administer member accounts, satisfy certain regulatory requirements, and to better understand our members so that we may provide additional or improved products and services.
Although Thornapple Valley Community Credit Union may disclose all of the information that we collect, we will always keep confidentiality and member privacy in mind. It is our goal to maintain member and credit union financial privacy to the best of our ability. Information given to us for a financial matter deserves to be treated with trust, honesty, and privacy, and shared only if it is absolutely necessary.
